HIRE A CONTRACTOR IN 3 EASY STEPS
Finding the right contractor can make your upcoming project a dream. Finding the wrong one can be a nightmare. With a few easy steps the whole process can be made easier.
Step 1: Remember Your the Boss.
This is your home and you know what you want. Ask questions, get answers. Make sure you feel confident in what you are told.
Step 2: Investigate
Always make sure you see examples of past work. Ask to see between 7-10 projects complete with names and numbers so you can talk with the customers and get some quality information.Y (You won’t need to call all 10 names on the list, but it’s nice to have options. Call at least three names to start.)
Contact the Better Business Bureau to see the contractor's rating.
Companies that have been around longer tend to be more reliable. There is a reason that they've stayed in business.
Step 3: Paperwork
Understand what is being shown to you. From the proposal, licensing, insurance, waranties and certifications - it's pretty easy to get confused.
Licensing - Make sure your company is licensed to work in your area.
Insurance - Two kinds of insurance required for Home Improvement are Liability and Worker's Compensation. One protects you and you home from damage or worker's who are injured.
Certifications - Most manufacturer's have specific training for their products. Make sure your contractor has the knowledge to install it correctly.
Warranties -There are workmanship warranties that give you assurance for the actual work being done. Then there are Manufacturer's warranties that safeguards you on the actual materials used. Always ask for a copy of the warranties.
