Storm Damage

Here are the basics of Storm Damage:

1: Take photos and see what the damage is

Please wait until after the storm is over.  Once you are safe, grab your smartphone and take videos and pictures of all the damage. After the storm has passed and it’s safe to venture outside, grab your camera or smartphone and start taking pictures and capturing video. Remember: Be safe. Downed power lines and high water can be deadly, and it’s not worth risking your life for photos that can be taken at a later, safer time.

2.  Make temporary repairs if able

Try to stop the water and wind from getting into your home.  Install tarps or cover windows with plywood.  But always be safe.

3.  Keep Records

Make sure that you keep all records of expenses to show your insurance company.

4.  Contact your insurance carrier

Contact your insurance - this is vital before any work is done.  The insurance company will usually let you know who's showing up and at what time.  Document everything and get all promises in writing.

Read your policy

Inform yourself before an issue happens so you will be prepared when something does.  Homeowner's insurance covers weather damage, theft, vandalisme and accidental circumstances.  Remember there are exceptions to what other events are covered, such as "Acts of God" and Flood.
